The prospect of Edo Tech Park in transforming the African tech ecosystem has excited investors in the project, who allude to Governor Obaseki’s tech-focused policies as being instrumental to developing Nigeria’s leading Tech Park.
Chika Nwobi, the Chief Executive Officer of Decagon, the private sector partner on the Edo Tech Park project, a brainchild of Governor Godwin Obaseki, in a series of tweets, said the tech park project will be phenomenal in building an army of software engineers that can conquer the world, working out of Benin City, the Edo State capital.
According to Nwobi, “Excited about the progress in @DecagonIns partnership with @EdoStateGovt. I truly believe the results will be transformational for Nigeria. We are collaborating to build Nigeria’s first proper Tech Park just 3 minutes from University of Benin.
“This 23-hectare development will host Decagon’s largest training campus as well as Work/Live/Play facilities for the over 3,000 engineers that will be working remotely for our international clients like Tribl (Atlanta) and Indeed.”
Chronicling how Governor Obaseki fast-tracked the development of the project, he said, “Nigerian companies will also be able to set up to enjoy the 24/7 power and internet from @Mainoneservice. @GovernorObaseki reached out in October, 2020, I met him for the first time in November, 2020. By December, 2020, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was sealed and by February, 2021, trainees guaranteed by Edo State joined @DecagonIns.”
He noted that the master-plan for the construction has been approved, adding that the project is being fast-tracked because the state and Decagon are in a hurry to give brilliant youths the right platform to fulfill their potential in technology.
“Some US companies have said they love working with Nigerian developers and with infrastructure like @edotechpark, they’ll scale,” he added.
