Obaseki’s reforms: Edo govt intensifies enrolment for health insurance scheme

The Edo State Government has intensified enrolment for the state’s health insurance scheme in furtherance of its mandate to provide residents with affordable and reliable healthcare services.

The new exercise is intended to enroll not less than 500,000 persons spread across the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

A cross section of residents in the state, who spoke to journalists, said the state government has intensified on its roll out of the programme, noting that they have received calls from the state’s helpline to validate their data submitted earlier to the state government.

A resident in Benin City, Mrs. Blessing Edeko, who participated in the exercise, expressed appreciation to the state government for its commitment to the realization of the health insurance scheme for residents in the state.

According to her, “This is the first time I am being called from the state government for such a programme. I thought it was a joke when I got the call, but they told me that the state government would soon be rolling out the programme and they wanted to revalidate my details. Now, I feel like the government is keenly interested in my welfare. I was told to visit the closest government health institution to get my card. It was so seamless.”

Another resident, Mr. Peter Ebosele, said he was surprised when he was called to confirm his details and told that the state’s health insurance programme was kicking off early next year.

“I am very interested in this programme because I have never had this sort of programme from a government before. I am excited because of the way it was communicated and the thinking that went behind the programme.”
