  5. Obaseki urges Political Class to Prioritize Human Capacity Devt
It is a long-term investment. It is not something you do and get the benefit of during the next election

By Nosakhare Agbonigiarhuoyi

The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has tasked members of the political class to pay more than the usual attention to human capacity development to achieve sustainable socio-economic growth and development across the country.

Obaseki gave the charge while receiving the Nigeria Study tour participants from the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Kaduna State, who paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Benin City, the State capital.

According to the Governor, “About 25 years ago, the nation changed its educational policy but nothing was done to disarticulate the school system.”

He maintained that “Youth unemployment has been created by a faulty education policy and the implementation, and until we fix that, we are not going to go far.”

Obaseki added that: “The biggest challenge we have in Nigeria today is a system where people are not trained for production.

“For us, it is about training your human capacity; because you can’t talk about development, you can’t talk about growth if you have not prepared your human capacity for that.

“It is a long-term investment. It is not something you do and get the benefit of during the next election.

“We must think, as politicians, about the next generation, not the next election. That has been our focus in Edo.”

On his part, the representative of the Commandant, Armed Forces Command and Staff College and Head of Team, Team Edo State, Nigerian Study Tour 2022, Air Commodore Chidiebere Obiabaka, commended the Governor for his developmental strides.

He said: “The College is an institution established to train operational-level military officers of the highest professional standards to assume command and staff responsibilities on their graduation.

“The aim of the college is to develop the professional knowledge and understanding of the selected officers of the Armed Forces to prepare them for both staff and command appointments and responsibilities in the field.

“The College does not train only Nigerian military officers but other officers from allied countries in Africa and the world in line with the foreign policy of our great country.”
