  5. Obaseki Understands Issues of Nigeria’s Devt, says Ex-Senate president, Saraki
By Isaac Aimurie and Henry Oqua
The former President of Nigeria’s Senate and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Bukola Saraki, has said that the Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, understands the issues that need urgent attention for the country to develop.
Saraki said this on Saturday in Benin City, the Edo State capital when he paid Obaseki a courtesy visit as part of his nationwide consultations with leaders and delegates of the party.
The former Kwara State Governor also commended the Edo Governor for bringing more youths into the opposition party through the registration exercise of the PDP.
“The Governor of Edo State, since he joined the party has brought a lot of energy into the party and has brought the right kind of attitude of bringing the youth into the party.
“He has made a lot of efforts and we must commend him for the registration drive of the party, which is the foundation, especially the principle of it, I don’t think I would want to say that he came before his time
“That is the future of political parties, not just the PDP, that is the kind of leaders we need in the political fray.”
He said his visit to the Governor was to sustain the development conversation that will guide the political class to solve the problems of the country.
“We all appreciate and know the problems of this country, we know that this country needs to be rescued and fixed and we do not have the luxury of voting just anybody in 2023 because of the situation the country is in.
“The country needs leaders that understand the issues, we have been talking and we all agree that that is what this country needs.”
Speaking on the quality of presidential aspirants in the party, Saraki said: “PDP is the only party today that can give the right direction to this country, so we want to make sure, yes a lot of aspirants want to be president, I believe that some are more qualified than others, some with experience in the executive and legislative arms of government.
“You got to know how business works, how the executive and legislative arms operate, so we can work together and unite this country.
“These are the things we were talking about and as you know he is a key stakeholder in this country, he understands the issues, he knows what he is talking about and has an idea of what Nigeria needs, so what he thinks is very important for aspirants like us and we had a good discussion.
“And I am going to talk to the delegate and let them know why they should vote for me at the primaries.”
