Obaseki charges youths to emulate winner of NCDMB essay competition, Osamede

In his continuing effort to acknowledge intellectual prowess of Edo indigenes, Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki hosted Mr. Osamede Ikponmwosa Kingsley, who won the 1st Prize in the Annual Oil & Gas Undergraduate Essay competition on Friday, December 15, 2017.

The competition, organised by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. It tasks 100 and 200 level undergraduates in universities and polytechnics in the Niger Delta region on their essay writing skills with a focus on promoting discourse on local content development.

Obaseki, while hosting Osamede at the Government House, Benin City, said his feat, yet again confirms the impressive intellect of youths in Edo State and advertises to the world, the richness of the state’s human resource endowment.

He said, “This win goes to show that our youths hold their ground comfortably among their peers. The place of local content development is germane to the diversification drive in Nigeria. Osamede’s feat gives us much hope for the future. We encourage young people to emulate his feat.”

In his response, the highly elated Osamede, said 2000 students participated in the essay competition that produced five winners.

He explained that he was adjudged the best amongst the five students after they were asked to defend their essays.

Osamede, who is a medical student in the University of Benin, said though the essay topic was outside his course of study, he took time to read up publications on the local content law.
