The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has approved the procurement of four armoured boats and four speed boats, as part of measures to boost security on the state’s waterways and protect the lives and property of the citizenry.

In a statement, Permanent Secretary, Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC), Mr. James Ufumwen, said the procurement of the boats is aimed at curbing criminal activities along its coastal areas and waterways.

According to him, “The Edo State Government has approved the Procurement of four (4) Armoured boats (double 200 HP Engine) and four (4) W23 Speed Boats (Single 200HP Engine),” he noted.

He further disclosed that the procurement of the security boats will enhance the security of residents in the state, especially those living along the waterways.

In an effort to rev up security of the lives and property in coastal areas, the Commission built marine posts at Gelegele in Ovia North East Local Government Area and Ologbo in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state, to fight pirates on the waterways, curb crime and criminal activities in the state.

The marine base is also ancillary to the development of the Benin River Port, which will boost economic activities and expand the frontiers for maritime and other related businesses in the state.
