  5. #EndSARS Protest: Youths Ministry, Waste Mgt Board clean up Edo streets

The Edo State Ministry of Youths and the State Waste Management Board have embarked on a cleanup exercise of streets in Benin City and other major towns across the state after the #ENDSARS protests.

Commissioner for Youths, Hon. Damian Lawani, who led some youths in the clean-up exercise, said their action became necessary in an effort to rid the streets of rubbles and debris as normalcy is gradually returning to the state.

He added that the state government supports the protests by youths to demand for justice and equity across the country, but was against the destruction of critical public assets.

On his part, General Manager of Edo State Waste Management Board, Mr. Imariagbe Charles Osadebamwen and some waste managers have partnered in keeping the city centre clean, amid the destructions of public and private assets in the wake of the hijack of the #ENDSARS protests by hoodlums.

According to him, “We are going round all the streets to clear the debris. We are also removing roadblock and the dirt caused by bonfires.

“A lot of debris was caused by the bonfire. I want to commend Edo State youths and the Commissioner for Youths, who have joined us in the clean-up exercise. We are also going through the inner roads to clear them up.”

“I appeal to the youths not to embark on bonfire again on the roads. Such actions have adverse effects on the roads. Governor Godwin Obaseki is in support of the #EndSARS protests. As an organization, we are doing our best in cleaning the environment. I urge everyone to support us to keep the environment clean.

“The exercise will take several days, but we are sure to clear it all up in good time,” he added.
