The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has received the commendation of residents of Ekosodin, in Ovia North-East local council of the state, as well as the University of Benin (UNIBEN) Community in Ugbowo for his administration’s massive infrastructural projects across the state aimed at boosting economic activities and improving livelihoods of citizens.

The varsity community specifically hailed the governor for the construction of a 9.84km road with asphalt overlay and 1.76KM fresh road awarded within the school premises in Ovia North-East local council.

The project is being executed by the state through the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC), headed by Pastor Kennedy Osifo.

Osifo said Governor Obaseki is investing greatly in road construction as part of the plans to make Edo great again, adding, “He gave EDSOGPADEC a matching order to construct and asphalt Ekosodin Road, which was split into two, Ekosodin Phase I and Phase II in Ovia North East Local Government Area.”

The EDSOGPADEC chairman noted that Ekosodin phase I consists of the main Ekosodin Road with five adjoining streets, while Ekosodin Phase II consists of the construction of the 9.84km road with asphalt overlay and 1.76km fresh road awarded within the school premises of the University of Benin, in Ovia North LGA.

He further disclosed that the construction and asphalting of roads cuts across the three oil-producing areas of the State.

On her part, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIBEN, Lilian Salami, thanked Governor Obaseki for the project, noting that it will completely give the school community a new look.

While expressing the appreciation of the school community, Prof. Salami said the school will always remember the kind gesture of the state government, adding, “These, among other projects, earned him the award of the Vanguard Newspaper Governor of the Year 2021.”

Some of the indigenes of Okabere community, who also spoke to our correspondent, were full of appreciation for the governor for the construction of PZ and Okabere Road.

Narrating their ordeals before the construction of the roads, they said before now, they usually go through other communities before they can access their communities because of the deplorable state of the road, adding, “the construction of the road has made life easy for us the indigenes of the community.”

According to Osifo, the construction of PZ – Okabere Road was split into four, which are PZ Road, Ehioghae 1.93km Road, Eriaria 1.95km Road and Okabere Road, which is 5km.

He said the road project which has reached 95 percent completion stage was first awarded in 2018 and re-awarded by the new board in 2019.
