  5. EdoSTAR Program Leeway to Govt’s full-time Employment – Oviawe
The Commissioner debunked some misconceptions about the EdoSTAR scheme that it is a two-month or casual job.

…assures that outstanding benefits will be paid

By Erharuyi A. Joe

The Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, has said that the Godwin Obaseki-led administration is committed to the welfare of workers in the State.

Dr. Oviawe made the declaration while responding to questions on the alleged non-payment of salaries of about 2,000 fellows of the Edo Supporting Teachers to Achieve Results (EdoSTAR) program.

She maintained that the Governor will pay all the outstanding salaries and advised that the affected workers should endeavor to do their biometrics, as those not captured in the State Payroll will not get paid as a result of such lapse.

The Commissioner debunked some misconceptions about the EdoSTAR scheme being a two-month or casual job, amongst others. She clarified that it is an entrance into full-time government employment after the successful completion of the teaching fellowship program.

In her words: “There seems to be all kinds of misconceptions about what the EdoSTAR Fellowship is all about; I have heard some people say that it is a casual job. No! It is not. This is a pipeline to going into full-time government’s employment as a full-time teacher.

“The teaching fellowship is to ensure that we have had ample time to train quite a number of our graduates who do not have teaching qualifications, in preparing them to become professionals.”
