  5. Edo Waste Management Board Intensifies Effort In Sustaining  A Clean State

The Edo State Waste Management Board, an agency under the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability recently engaged in some cleanup activities at the Ibiwe and Lagos Street axis of Benin City.

The team was led by the Commissioner in the Ministry, Mr. Jonathan Lawani, to desilt the drains in a bid to control flooding in the areas.

This area is known to be heavily flooded during the rainy season; hence its choice for the exercise. The timely intervention by the Ministry has received commendation by residents.

The Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration has engaged in environmental projects such as; the Clean up Edo campaign, organized workshops in collaboration with some private waste management organizations to ensure a healthy and clean Edo.

This recent action by the Ministry is a clear indication that they are committed to the course of Making Edo Great Again (MEGA), the agenda of the Obaseki administration.

To sustain the momentum, the activities of the Ministry will be extended to other parts of the State in the weeks to come.

However, all indigenes and residents of Edo State should endeavor to partner with the State government to ensure that they continue to contribute their quota by cleaning up their environment and not failing to keep away all waste materials, including plastics away from the drains.

Failure to do so will endanger the health of the people, increase flood menace and perpetually make Edo dirty.
