Edo govt, GIZ launch internship programme for 450 youths

The Edo State Government in partnership with Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has launched an Internship and Apprenticeship Skills Scheme for about 450 youths in the state.

Managing Director, Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs), Ukinebo Dare, while addressing journalists in Benin City, said the internship programme will give youths in the state more opportunities to work and garner relevant job experience.

According to her, “The Edo State Government through its skills development agency is partnering with Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH for an Internship and Apprenticeship Skills Scheme for about 450 youths in the state.”

“The Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration is committed to creating opportunities for youths to thrive and the programme creates opportunities for young people to get the required experience to succeed in the work environment.”

On his part, Component Lead, Active Labour Market Measures at GIZ, Mr. Deflet Barth, noted: “We are focused on empowering young people and getting them integrated into the labour market.

“We are supporting our partners to facilitate job creation for youths. Furthermore, we are assisting EdoJobs and the Edo State Government in this regard. I would like to commend Edo State Government under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki for its support and commitment to empowering youths in the state.”

The Obaseki-led administration in the first term created over 170, 000 direct and indirect jobs through schemes, trainings and programmes by the skills development agency.

 

The state government has struck new partnerships with several technology firms paving way for the youths to acquire highly-sought-after skills in technology and innovation, including data science, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, among others.
