  5. Edo boosts hydrocarbon assets as Seplat, others set to supply crude to Duport Refinery

In realization of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s energy reforms in Edo State, Duport Modular Refinery with 2,500bpd capacity located in Egbokor, Orhionmwon Local Government Area, will process crude supplied by Seplat and Summit Oil for its operations.

Governor Obaseki’s reforms in the state has attracted two modular refineries in the state, including the Edo Refinery, a 6,000 bpd facility in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area (LGA) and the Duport Refinery, which is operated by Duport Midstream Company Limited.

While inspecting the facility, Executive Secretary, Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Mr. Simbi Wabote, said the refinery will source raw materials from its partners, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).

“We thank our partners, NNPC as well as Seplat for providing us with the desired crude. Here, we are working very hard with Summit oil and other partners that want to partner with us to supply crude”

The Chairman, Duport Midstream Board, Mrs. Mobolaji Kuku, said the facility was a first of its kind, adding, “What we have here is a vision that is almost a reality. We have a refinery and a data centre among others. We have different components on one site and it has never been done before.”

“We have maximized the potential of this place. Nigerians are going to see what is possible in this country. It is almost here. We have to start doing things ourselves. We have to become self-sufficient, and that is the underlying thinking behind the project,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of the company, Dr. Akintoye Akindele, noted that Duport was conceptualised to be a modern company not just in engineering but also as the company engages with the community.

Akindele said the energy park had a positive carbon footprint, which according to him, meant it was not destructive to the environment.
