The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Primary Election is currently holding at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City to decide the party’s flagbearer in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

A total of 2,229 delegates from the 192 wards and 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State are electing the party’s flagbearer.

Former contenders in the election, who later stepped down for Obaseki are Engr. Gideon Ikhine, Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama and Mr. Kenneth Imasuagbon. They have declared their support for the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

Obaseki, who is seeking reelection for a second term in office, is the only candidate now in the race for the party’s ticket.

The PDP Edo Primary Election Committee is chaired by the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, with Governors Seyi Makinde and Bello Matawallen of Oyo and Zamfara States respectfully, as members.
