  5. Edo 2020: European-based group pledges support for Obaseki’s re-election, acknowledges strides in forest regeneration

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Association Bernadette Strebel World Peace (ABSWP), based in Switzerland and Spain, has pledged support and prayed for good fortunes for the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration in the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for September 19.

In a recorded message to salute the giant strides of the governor in the area of forest regeneration and commitment to the environment, president of the association, Mrs Bermadette Strebel, said the governor performed far better than any other government in sustaining reforms to reclaim deforested land and implement forward-looking policies on deforestation.

According to her, “We are really pleased with the governor for working hard to recover the forests of Edo State, as exemplified in his address when I visited the state.

“I wish the governor and the good people of Edo State good fortune during the forthcoming election.”

She expressed appreciation to the governor for his steadfastness in combating the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the state, especially in providing free medical care to residents in the state who contracted the virus.

“We appreciate the governor for the recent developments with our project. We appreciate him for appointing a Senior Special Assistant on Forestry. This is the best we have enjoyed from any government in Edo State. The board members of our association thank his Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, for his interest and continuous support for our project,” she added.
