COVID-19: Religious bodies to set up COVID-19 vaccination centres in Edo, as govt intensifies vaccine rollout

Religious leaders in Edo State have urged residents to get vaccinated against the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19), to complement the government’s efforts at containing the pandemic.

Speaking at a press conference, after a meeting of the Edo State Council of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the chairman, Bishop Oriname Oyennude Kure, said the vaccination centres will be set up in churches to allow more people have access to the vaccines.

He said, “We are charging everyone to cooperate so that we can save lives. This is so that people in various churches can be vaccinated. The vaccine will not kill you; it will rather save and protect you.

“We are in full support that the vaccination should be done in our various churches. It is not a risk. You will not die when you take it; it will rather protect you.”

“By the special grace of God, on behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Edo State, we are addressing the good people of Edo State, particularly all churches to get vaccinated. The vaccines will protect you and give you high immunity against this evil virus,” he added.

Chairman, Organization of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), Edo State, Apostle-General Dr. I. U. Omoike said, “The vaccine is safe and certified by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). Many of us have taken the vaccine. It is effective. I encourage all our members in the church to go ahead and take the vaccines because currently, it is the only available means of preventing the disease from causing deaths.”
