The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has briefed President Muhammadu Buhari on strategies being adopted in the state to contain the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The governor, who spoke with the President via a zoom meeting, commiserated with him on the passing of his Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari, and intimated the President on the strategies being adopted to curb the spread of COVID-19 and address the economic implications of the pandemic in Edo State.

In a statement, Governor Obaseki said, “During the zoom meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, I commiserated with him over the passing of his Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari.

“I also briefed him on Edo State Government’s strategy to combat COVID-19, which is being tweaked daily as we get more insights. We have set a target of testing and screening over 5000 and 500,000 persons respectively. I intimated the president on our strategies to reposition the state’s economy for a post-COVID-19 era, so that we can easily restart our economy and sustain our people’s livelihood.

“During the virtual meeting, I also updated President Buhari on the political situation in the state, as this is an election year in our dear state.”

The Edo State Government has embarked on a number of strategic actions to halt the spread of the virus in the state, including the imposition of a partial lockdown in the state; a dusk-to-dawn curfew; border restrictions; ban on social gathering of more than 20 persons, closure of schools and relocation of markets, among others.
