…records zero death in 15 days, no new case in 24 hrs

The Edo State Government has intensified the vaccination of residents across the state’s 18 local government councils, vaccinating 26,072 persons with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in two weeks of the first phase of the vaccination exercise.

Executive Secretary of the state’s Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Julie Erhabor, disclosed this during the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

Erhabor noted that the state has vaccinated 26,072 eligible persons cumulatively and 3,355 persons in the last 24 hours, including healthcare workers, strategic leaders and other frontline workers.

She said the 26,072 persons who have been vaccinated so far, represent 64.3 percent of the state’s 40,540 target population for the vaccination exercise, reassuring that the government has stepped up efforts to ensure all eligible members of the public are vaccinated.

Erhabor disclosed that those so far vaccinated include 6, 078 healthcare workers, 7,607 strategic leaders and 12, 387 other frontline workers across the state’s 18 local councils.

Meanwhile, the state’s COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi said Edo has continued to record success in containing the second wave of the pandemic, noting, “We are witnessing a steady rise in COVID-19 recoveries; the case positivity rate has drastically dropped; fatality rate has been relatively stable and active cases have continued to reduce, as our hospitals and isolation facilities are almost empty.”

Urging for compliance with preventive protocols to ensure that the state finally defeats the pandemic, Obi stated that the state has not recorded any COVID-19 in the last 15 days.

He disclosed that the state, in the last 24 hours, collected 156 samples and recorded no new case, five recoveries, zero death, with 14 active cases that are being managed at various isolation and treatment facilities in the state.

Obi said Edo has so far collected 22, 244 samples and recorded 2180 confirmed cases, 2097 recoveries and 73 deaths since December 01, 2020 when the state started tracking the second wave of the pandemic.

The Incident Manager reassured that Edo is ramping up efforts to ensure that the state vaccinates all eligible members of the public for the phase of the exercise before the commencement of the National Sports Festival in the state on April 2, 2020
