  5. COVID-19: Edo urges collective efforts to curb spread, records 3 new cases, one recovery

The Edo State Government has called for the support of all residents in curtailing the spread of the second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19), as the government intensifies efforts to contain the pandemic and ensure safety of citizens.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this during the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

He noted that the government has continued the vaccination of all eligible members of the public and enforcement of guidelines across the state, as part of deliberate efforts to stop the spread of the infectious disease.

Obi further charged the elderly, frontline workers and other eligible members of the public to take advantage of the ongoing vaccination exercise to get themselves and their loved ones inoculated against the virus.

The Incident Manager said, in the last 24 hours, the state collected 72 samples and recorded three new cases, one recovery and zero death, with eight active cases that are being managed at various isolation and treatment centres in the state.

Obi, who reassured the government’s commitment to curbing the spread of the virus, urged persons with COVID-19 symptoms to contact the Edo Emergency Operation Centre on this toll-free number: 08003625000 for assistance.

The Incident Manager noted: “We appeal to all residents in the state to complement the government’s efforts at ensuring the health and safety of all citizens by complying with the preventive protocols against the spread of the second wave of COVID-19.”

“Wash your hand regularly under running water, use alcohol-based hand sanitisers and observe social distancing to stay safe from the deadly virus,” he added.
