…records 54 new cases, one death
The Edo State Government has expressed worry over the progressive increase in the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the second wave of the pandemic, as the state recorded 54 new cases and one more death from the deadly virus.
The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this on Tuesday during a virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
Obi who urged residents to be cautious and observe all precautionary and safety measures against the spread of the virus, noted that the risk of spread in the state is higher as community transmission has risen to 90.4 percent.
According to him, “Edo State has, in the last 24 hours, recorded 54 new cases of COVID-19 and one more death, bringing the total number of deaths in the second wave of the pandemic to 36.
“We also recorded three new health workers infection with 740 active cases who are currently receiving treatment at various treatment and isolation centres in the state.”
The Incident Manager added: “Edo has continued to record progressive increase in the number of confirmed cases across the state as community transmission of the second wave of the pandemic in the state is now at 90.4 percent.
“This is quite alarming and calls for concern. We urge everyone to take responsibility for their health by complementing the government’s efforts at keeping us safe and healthy.”
“We urge all residents to ensure strict compliance to the laid down guidelines against the spread of the virus including compulsory wearing of facemasks in public, observing physical distancing and regular washing of hands with soap under running water,” he restated.
