Coronavirus: Obaseki takes stock of medical supplies

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has taken inventory of facilities, drugs and medical equipment at the Central Medical Store, Benin City, as the state ramps up efforts to check the spread of coronavirus (COVID19).

The governor, who led other government functionaries on the inspection tour, said the Central Medical Store is strategic as the state receives donations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said “I want to have a firsthand experience on what we do when we receive these donations; how we keep them, how the records are kept and how drugs are utilized.”

He noted that as part of the state’s response to COVID-19, the government is assessing how drugs and medical equipment are received, stored and dispensed.

“It is my responsibility to account for all the donations received in support of the fight against COVID-19. That is why I am here to find out if the items received are properly documented. I want to also understand the process of documentation and evidence that the items have been truly used.

“At a point in time, I will undertake a full audit of all the donations and gifts received to enable me give account to those who have been so kind to the state this period,” he said.

The state government embarked on a holistic plan to combat the pandemic and has received different donations from corporate organizations, trade unions, intervention agencies, individuals, and religious bodies, among others.
