Following the stay-at-home order by the Edo State Government, local councils in the state have taken urgent steps to enforce the order in their councils, compelling the people to observe the social distancing policy.

 

Local council chairmen in the state, at the weekend, led taskforce teams to various parts of their councils to inform the people on the need to adhere to the directive by the state government, urging the people to comply with the directive to remain safe.

 

Chairman, Oredo Local Government Area, Hon Evbareke Jenkins Osunde, led members of the Local Government Taskforce Committee on COVID-19 to major streets in Benin City to enforce the stay at home order as well as the social distancing policy.

 

Members of the taskforce include Head, Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV), Muktari Osagie; Vice Chairman of the council, Hon Belinda Ogiefa; Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Raymond Olaye; Head of Local Government Administration, Dr. Osaheni Igbinigie, among others.

 

The areas visited include Mission Road, Forestry Road, Akpakpava Road, Agbado Market, Dawson Road and environs.

 

The council chair emphasized that only those who sell food items, medicine and essential commodities are allowed to open for business.

 

The team also monitored the level of compliance on government directive to churches in the area.
