
Brigadier J. T. Useni (January 1984-August 1985)

Born on February 16, 1943 at Langtang in Plateau State, Brigadier Useni was educated at the central primary school, Langtang and the Nigerian Military school Zaria. His Military training took him to various professional institutions at home and abroad including the British Army Apprenticeship college, Chepstow, Indian Military Acedemy Deharadun India, young officers’ transportation course England, command and staff college Jaji and the institute of policy and stategic studies kuru, jos.
Brigadier Useni has held various positions in the Nigerian
Army, notably: Platoon Commander and Motor Transport Officer, 4th Battalion Ibadan 1964-1966.
Company Commander, 1967-1968.
Commandant, Army school of supply and transport battalion, 1970-1971.
Acting Director, supply and transport, 1971-1972.
Commander, supply and transport brigade, 1972-1973.
Director, supply and transport 1975-1980.
commander, brigade of guards, Dodan Barracks, Lagos, 1976-1977.
Chairman, Nigeria railway corporation, 1977-1980.
Director, ordinance services, 1980-1981 and Commander, 2 Amphibious brigade, port-Harcourt, 1981-1984.
In 1985 he was posted to Lagos as the Minister of transport and aviation.He was promoted Major-General and later appointed Quarter Master-General of the Nigerian army.
Minister responsible for the administration of the Abuja Federal Capital Territory under the Sani Abacha military junta.
He retired as a Lt. General.
