The Edo Private Property Protection (PPP) Taskforce has arrested and charged an alleged land grabber, Mr. Fred Odigie to court over alleged involvement in illegal sales of landed property.

Second Vice Chairman of the Edo PPP, Surveyor Andrew Oliha, disclosed this to journalists after a sitting of the taskforce, in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Oliha said the suspect was arrested and charged to court for disobeying the extant laws that abolished the activities of Community Development Associations (CDAs) in the state.

Oliha said CDAs and their activities had been banned in the state, noting that anyone caught involved in such activities would be prosecuted.

He said Odigie, who hails from Iyanomo community, has different cases of illegal sales of land with the PPP taskforce, hence the decision to transmit his cases to court.

“He has been indicted in more than two cases of illegal sales of land. He has a couple of cases here; we got fed up with his recurrent appearance here so we decided to hand him over to the court to continue proceedings.

“We have done the needful thing; it is not victimisation and not a punishment. It is something we got to do so the case will move forward.”

He noted that the PPP taskforce in the state was still active, adding that there were several cases being investigated and the culprits would be prosecuted and their dealings made public in due course.
