Strike is called off- Federal Govt. and ASUU reach accord

The Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) yesterday finally laid to rest their differences following the signing of the agreement by both sides.

Gamaliel Onosode signed on behalf of the Federal Government while Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, ASUU President signed on behalf of ASUU.

There were compromises and some concessions at the signing agreement, with cheering news over conditions of service and some other important provisions.

Speaking at the occasion, Professor Awuzie expressed the happiness of ASUU over the signing of the agreement, adding that it will follow-up with its actual implementation.

Also baring his mind, Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said that the signing of the agreement should be followed up with its implementation.

Governor Oshiomhole who was co-opted as a mediator by the Federal Government at a later stage of the crisis had said that parties to the crisis had agreed to shift grounds.

It would be recalled that Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was drafted in as a mediator when the crisis reached a deadlock.

ASUU also had to suspend its strike action to pave way for the signing of the agreement which has now been put to rest following the signing of the agreement.
