Head coach of the Super Eagles, Shaibu Amodu may have been relieved of his job even before the end of the 27th African Cup of Nations holding in Angola on the orders of the Presidency who are angered by the floppy performance of the team in the championship.
The nation’s seat of power insist that the former BCC Lions gaffer should be sent packing immediately after the Angola 2010 Nations Cup whether or not he leads the Super Eagles to their third African title success.
The fate of the Nigerian star-studded squad head coach was the subject of a marathon meeting in Benguela late Saturday night which spilled to the early Sunday morning between the Nigeria Football Federation NFF leadership and members of the Presidential Task Force, PTF.
Complete Sports scooped that President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi, who had previously proclaimed the federation’s resolve to swim or sink with the former Orlando Pirates of South Africa coach, expectedly rose in defence of Amodu, saying that the NFF has no plans to get rid of him as they still stand by him.
It was at this point, we gathered, the Presidential Task Force led by its chairman, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, told the NFF that Amodu’s removal irrespective of whatever results the Eagles would record at the Nations Cup was the direct order from the Aso Rock.
The PTF also made it clear to the NFF leadership that further effort to protect Amodu by the NFF will result in the removal of the leadership.
“At this point, the NFF officials
who now realized the strength of the PTF position on the issue gave up as they could no longer put up any resistance”, Complete Sports was told.
“No, Amodu was not at the meeting and I don’t think they will inform him about it until, may be, after the Super Eagles last group match on Wednesday in Lubango.
“But if we qualify, I believe they can still keep the decision away from him until at any stage we get eliminated from the competition”. |
