ETSAKO CENTRAL RE-RUN POLLS: PDP HAS DIABOLIC PLAN TO RIG
A diabolic plan by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State to make the state ungovernable has been exposed by the political Adviser to Edo State government, Hon. Charles Idahosa.
Speaking to newsmen in Benin City yesterday, the Political Adviser to Edo State government said the PDP has concluded plans to use the forthcoming House of Assembly seat re-run election in Etsako Central Constituency as a bait to achieve their diabolical plan.
According to him, the first step towards the achievement of this grand plan is to influence immediate transfer of uncompromising top police officers from the state.
“A move was indeed made to effect the transfer of some disciplined officers from the state but this has been foiled by the prompt intervention of well-meaning Nigerians who clearly said that the action was politically motivated”, he said.
According to him, “we know that the Inspector-General of Police, Ogbonna Onovo is not in anybody’s pocket and the Nigeria police cannot be used for illegality”.
He disclosed that intelligence reports also show that the remnants of PDP members in the state are basking in the assurance that victory in the re-run election in the state has been decided in their favour by the powers that be.
“They have been told that the federal might will be brought to bear on the conduct of the election in the state, and as you are aware, federal might connotes the illegal use of Federal Government Agencies, including the INEC and the police security agencies to determine the outcome of the election in favour of the PDP”, he added.
The political Adviser to the Edo State government also hinted that there are disturbing reports that massive movement of firearms by the PDP into Etsako Central Local Government Area where election will hold have continued unabated.
He recalled that a few days ago, the state Commissioner of Police warned trouble makers, particularly election riggers to have a re-think and steer clear of Edo State in general and Etsako Central Constituency in particular.
In his words: “There is no doubt that the PDP is acting under intense pressure and apprehension. The party has been dismembered by internal crises, severally wounded and weakened by mass deflection of reputable and influential members into the fold of AC and simple political calculation apparently reveals that if AC was strong and victorious in 2007, it has further been strengthened to make victory in a free and fair election, hence the resort to unconventional and criminal tactics. But this will not work in the present enlightened Edo State.
The Political Adviser to the Edo State government therefore appealed to the leadership of the PDP to embrace peace and abandon the plan of turning the January 23rd, 2010 re-run election into a war theatre, to avoid the loss of lives and properties, before, during and after the election.
He however, warned that the state Governor, Comrade Oshiomhole is resolved to do everything in his power to frustrate and abort every plan to cause breach of peace, mayhem and instability in the state under any guise.
“Let me state without equivocation that the governor is ready and capable of discharging his responsibility as the Chief Security Officer in the state and let no one dare his will as they are advised not to stick their neck into a beehive”, he noted.
He said the Comrade Governor is well known for his campaign for credible election in Nigeria, saying that his belief in one-man, one-vote as a basis for democratic development should be embraced by all.
“Let the people decide who their representatives should be and anyone who emerges from such a credible process will have no choice but deliver pure services to his or her constituency”, he stated.
