Oshiomhole intensifies effort on Road rehabilitation, demolition
Edo State Government’s effort to clean Benin City of refuse and illegal structures has gained momentum. Besides, the officials of the ministry of Works and Public Utilities have resumed construction works at Welfare junction in Upper Sokponba Road.
Government had issued a-seven day ultimatum to owners of illegal structures before it would roll out its bulldozers. Government would not condone any act of lawlessness just as the demolition bulldozer yesterday visited 1st Street and cleared off such structures on right of way.
The seven days ultimatum also affects owners of structures on government sites earmarked for mechanic villages to vacate them or have them demolished at their expense. Government condemns the activities of these illegal occupiers while efforts are on-going to bring them to book.
At the expiration of the seven days ultimatum, government will take full possession of the mechanic villages just as moves to relocate the Mechanic Workshops in the city to such areas to allow for the Beautification Programmes of the State Government.
