Edo awards N905 million for Benin beautification, landscaping

Edo State Government has awarded a contract sum of N905, 626,454.04 (Nine Hundred and Five Million, Six Hundred and Twenty-Six Thousand, Four Hundred and Fifty Four Naira, Four Kobo) for the execution of the Benin Metropolis beautification and landscaping project.

In order to bring to reality, government’s gospel on environmentally sustainable practices, particularly in the area of beautification, the Ministry of Environment and Public Utilities compiled ideas, observation and experiences upon which the State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole at the EXCO approved two Contracting Firms to handle Sokponba Road, Kings Square, Sapele Road, Akpakpava Road and Oba Market Road.

The Contractors are Home Office and Garden Ltd and Kiosque Vegetal Ltd and the main focus of the beautification project would entail hard and soft landscaping; greening of both sides of Road; triangles and median where available; concrete or interlocking pavement or walkways; new street lighting; Street light retrofitting for Akpakpava; Road markings/paint work; solar studs; electricity generating set as alternative power source; one year mechanical and electrical maintenance and supply of diesel for one year; public toilet; bus shelter; boreholes and grass tendering for six months.

Four Companies with diverse experience on environment and beautification matters and which have played active roles in the Lagos and Cross Rivers states beautification projects were invited to submit proposals and quotations for the Roads/Streets and areas to be affected by the beautification intervention work.

The contacted companies are; Home Office and Gardens Ltd; Streetscape Ventures Ltd; Kiosque Vegetal Ltd and Public Space Concept Ltd but only three responded to the request just as the Ministerial Tenders Board recommended that 2 of the 4 be awarded the contracts.
