Edo commits N60bn to road projects

Edo State government has committed about N60bn to the construction of roads across the three senatorial districts.

The Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Benin City on Wednesday, after flagging off the construction of the Iguabazuwa-Siluko in Ovia South West and Uhev-Olumoya road in Ovia-North East local Government areas of the state.

According to the Governor, “it is actually more than N50bn that we have committed over the years. The story of Edo state was a story of lamentation under the PDP. Today, people are saying what has changed, and the only thing that has changed is the quality of ideas and the level of commitment, and the anger with which we have chosen to deal with the challenges that confront us”.

He noted that government spent last year planning and saving, adding that it is the savings that government has used to mobilise the contractors.

“We have gone round over the past two weeks to look at contracts on roads that are under execution across the three senatorial districts and you have seen in all cases that the contractors are working and the communities are excited and happy’.

Oshiomhole said “In Esan land, we have made a statement, the roads are on. In Edo north the roads are on. Across the three senatorial districts, there is something for everybody. He expressed appreciation to the people of the state for their cooperation in the execution of his development programmes. In his words “as we speak, there is not one Edo person who has taken us to court for removing either illegal structure or legal structure that offend the right of way, which shows the level of support that the government enjoys.

“My joy is, we made a promise and we are fulfilling our promise. We will keep our promise with our people because they are the masters,” he added.
