Oshiomhole calls for vigilance over election

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adam Oshiomhole has called for vigilance in subsequent elections because mischief makers who attempted to rig the re-run election in Etsako Central are yet to accept the logic of the ballot box.

The governor who was speaking when he received a coalition of civil society organizations at Government House, Benin City noted that experience from the Etsako Central re-run election reveals that Nigerians must commit themselves to “one man one vote”, because good governance is impossible without the people. He urged politicians to walk their ways into the hearts of the people with their performance.

Receiving the independent monitoring report on the election from the group, Oshiomhole said the role of electoral bodies in the conduct of elections is critical, just as he said security agencies are important to the success of a free and fair election.

Oshiomhole commended the Coalition of Civil Society Organization for their independent report on the re-run House of Assembly election in the Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State.

While assuring that the state government will support the activities of the Civil Society Organization, especially in the area of enlightening the people on the need for one man one vote, the governor enjoined the group to also encourage Nigerians to contribute towards the funding of the civil society groups.

The leader of the group, Rev David Ugolor who presented the report to the governor, said the election was free and fair adding, that it was the best that has ever happened in the country.
