Oshiomhole Decries Dina’s Murder

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has decried the dastard murder of former governorship candidate of the Action Congress (AC) in Ogun State, Dipo Dina who was shot dead in his SUV on Monday night by unknown assailants.

In a statement in Benin City, the governor who condemned the rising spate of politically motivated murders in the country, was of the view that this was one murder too many.

“We need to discard this tradition of murders and enthrone a society founded on robust debates and healthy discourses. We must create a transparent political process that underscores the right of the citizenry to make a choice. We must eschew acts that make the country the butt of comedians”, he said.

While commiserating with the Dina and the larger AC family and the people of Ogun State on the murder, the governor called on the security agencies to ensure that the culprits are brought to book in order not to create the impression that assassins are ceaselessly on the prowl in the country without check. This is necessary particularly at a time when the country’s image has plummeted in the comity of nations.

Rather than resorting to making a fetish of the wielding of guns, a romance for machete and promotion of a society enmeshed in violence, Oshiomhole calls for a society where we can all engage each other in a healthy dialogue. “We must proceed to build a society founded on meaningful dialogue irrespective of our differences”, he said.

Noting that the protracted hold of the military in the politics of the country, has militarized our psyche and foisted a culture of violence, the governor calls for the politics of accommodation through the genuine institution of electoral reform and the principle of “one man, one vote”. “This is the antidote to the heightening political tension in the country”, he said.

Smarting from the weekend victory of the AC candidate, Johnson Oghuma over his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) challenger, Chris Omogbai in the House of Assembly re-run in Etsako Central Local Government, popularly adjudged as free and fair, Oshiomhole said that what is apposite is for us to enthrone a viable electoral process where the right of the voter to cast his lot for a candidate of his choice is upheld. “Our watchword is to enthrone a transparent process that can throw up different options for our people”, he said.
