PRESS RELEASE
The state Government has began the installation of standard road traffic signs on some major streets in Benin City.
The move according to the commissioners for transport Mr. Victor Enoghama is in furtherance of Government policy to ensure smooth driving in the Benin metropolis.
Areas where the traffic signs have been conspicuously displayed are the king square which is strictly prohibited for either parking or waiting.
Other road users where the traffic signs are being installed include Akpakpava, Sapele Road, Sakponba Road, Igun Road and Oba Market Road.
The transport Commissioner said with the installation of the traffic signs, members of the public would no longer claim ignorance of where and where not to park adding that any violation would not be tolerated.
He said the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations was not to witch-hunt any person but to make the road free and safe for driving.
Mr. Enoghama reiterated his call for private partnership with the state Government in the development of parking lots, provision of bus stops and road traffic signs.
