Obaseki talks up education, assures alumni of support

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has revealed that the emergence of 3 state-owned universities in the state  was testament to the state government’s prioritisation of university education, while reaffirming his administration’s readiness to ensure the 2017 Conference of Alumni Associations of Nigerian Universities (CAANU) was successful.

 

This was as the governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Osarodion Ogie, met with members  of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of CAANU at the Edo State Government House in Benin City.

 

He also emphasised that the establishment of Tayo Akpata University in the state was to build capacity so that students who acquired skills from the institution would be self-reliant and employers of labour.

 

Governor Obaseki also commended the alumni on the visit, commenting that the conferences and seminars being held in Edo State were  indications of the confidence and trust reposed in his administration, with the latest of them set to hold in Igbinedion University, Okada.

 

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of CAANU, Professor Ahmed Tijani, who led the delegation, intimated the state government on the activities of the association, while appreciating the state government for promoting tertiary education in the state.
