Edo State Government, yesterday, presented cheques totaling N14 million to seven widows of police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Also, the Government supported the education of each child of the fallen seven policemen with N500,000.

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who made the presentation yesterday said the security of lives and property is the irreducible minimum responsibility of every Government to the people.

Edo State recorded a total of 632,543 births from 2006 to November, 2013, the National Population Commission (NPC) said yesterday.

Mr Tunji Sanni, Head of Vital Registration Department of the NPC, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Benin.

As part of Edo State Government effort to stamp out quackery from the Health Care delivery system in the state, the Ministry of Health last week closed down five private Health facilities in Edo North Senatorial District for falling short of operational standards.

The facilities closed down were “CARE MEDICAL CENTRE, off Igarra-Ososo Express Road, Enwan, GREATER GLORY/LABORATORY SERVICES, Okpella, RENA NURSING AND MATERNITY Home, also in Okpella.
