The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has embarked on a road walk round the Benin metropolis as part of its tax enlightenment campaign.

Oshiomhole protests extortion of electricity consumers in Edo


Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has kicked against the N750 monthly fixed charge collected by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) from its customers in the state, saying it amounts to extortion and exploitation of electricity consumers in the state.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has charged the men of the State Traffic Management Agency (ESTMA) to stop and arrest him or the State Deputy Governor if their vehicles beat the red light rule, saying no one is too big to contravene laws in the state.

Speaking during a meeting with officers and men of the Agency at the Government House, weekend, Oshiomhole said men of the agency to be firm but civil in carrying out their duties, saying they must not treat ‘big men’ with levity because of their status in the society.

Edo State House of Assembly has passed the Bill for a law to make provisions for the establishment of Edo State University of Science and Technology, Uzairue into law.

The passage of the bill followed the Clause –by-Clause consideration of the bill at the committee of the whole in which certain sessions of the bill were amended.

Edo State Government has inaugurated a 20- man task force on illegal structures and building development control (TISBDC).

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere at the inauguration informed that the taskforce has been mandated to ensure that order is brought to bear on the development of cities in the State.

Edo State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Union Niger Delta Support Programme on Water Supply and Sanitation.

Cattle rearers menace: Agric Commissioner appears before Edo Assembly


Edo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Abdul Oroh yesterday appeared at the plenary session of the Edo State House of Assembly to explain the steps taken by his ministry to control the menace of cattle herdsmen in Urhonigbe community in Orhiomwon Local Government Area and other parts of the state.

This was sequel to this invitation by the house as a fallout of a motion raised during plenary session by Hon. Friday Ogieriakhi alleging the menace by Fulani cattle herdsmen in the locality.

Edo targets land use charge to boost IGR
