Why we invest in education, by Oshiomhole

The Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole says the future of the state lies in the quality of its human capital that is why education is central to the policies of the administration.

The Governor who disclosed this when the student union government of Ekiadolor College of Education paid him a courtesy visit said the state government will deliver one thousand school desk to the college next week.
“I believe that the future of Edo State lies in the quality of the human capital.

Nations may have or may not have solid or liquid minerals but nations that have made it around the world when you look at the developmental literature it is very clear that it is the quality of human capital that drives the pace of development,” he noted.

He said in Nigeria there is so much oil to export, so much solid and non solid minerals and yet we are getting poorer because we lack the necessary managerial capacity to translate and to manage this resources in a way to impact the quality of life of the people.

“The foundation for education necessary depends on the quality of primary and the quality of post primary education. Everybody will never be a graduate and everybody does not need to be a graduate but every can have sound qualitative education. That is the reason that informed our investment in primary and post primary education,” he added.
According to him, the Rapid Response Agency will be directed to assess the water system in the institution to ensure the flow of water there.

“The state government will also extend the building of facilities to Ekiadolor. We will do our best to reposition Education across the state and the state cannot be the same again,” he noted.

The President, Student Union Government, College of Education Ekiadolor, Comrade Orhiakhi Augustine commended the state government for focusing on qualitative education and massive development in the state.
“Today, it is on record that the Edo State Government is seen as number one in the area of development in our nation. This has been demonstrated through the massive road reconstruction, primary and secondary school rehabilitation all through the local government area of Edo State. We also want to thank you for the infrastructural development in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and the reduction of their full time fees by N15, 000 as part of palliative measures of fuel subsidy” he noted.

While congratulating the governor for the many achievements within three years and some months in office, the student union government president of Ekiadolor college of Education, said, “we are praying and will still continue to pray that God sustain your on-going democracy because you are the Moses to Edo State.”
