Oshiomhole takes step to stem maternal mortality

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has decried the increase in child related deaths and promised to ensure that modern facilities are provided in the hospitals across the state to stop the trend
The governor who made this known during the National Council for Women Societies of Nigeria election for Edo State Executives held in Benin City said the state government is determined to assist women take advantage of modern facilities in hospitals.
According to him, Edo State provides free maternal child care for pregnant mothers, as part of efforts to assist the women folks. 

“We are determined to ensure and assist women take advantage of modern facilities in our hospitals and we have a balanced gender policy because empowering the women is the smartest thing to do, in the interest of the nation,” he noted. 

He disclosed that in Edo State, the Head of Service, Commissioner for Health, Commissioner for Culture, Commissioner for Youths and sports as well as the Commissioner for Women Affairs are all women.
While noting that there are more spaces to have more women in government, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said, 45 percent of the Permanent Secretaries and 50 percent of judges in the state are women. The governor commended the women for being able to conduct a free and fair election and advised them that as mothers they should always keep to the rules of ensuring that the votes count.

The National President, National Council for Women Societies of Nigeria, Chief Nkechi Mba commended Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for his developmental programmes in the state.

According to her, the Nigeria Council for Women Societies of Nigeria, the umbrella body of all women group in the country is non-partisan, but works with any government in power.
