The Governor of Edo State, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, has assured the Board and Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) of the state government’s assistance in the implementation of the Niger Delta Regional Development Master Plan.

Addressing the board members who paid him a courtesy visit, Osunbor said the challenges of the Niger Delta region were very serious and would require the active participation of all stakeholders.

He commended the board for coming out with a comprehensive Master Plan which, if properly implemented, would go a long way to solve the Niger Delta problems and called on the commission to urgently address the issue of insecurity in the region by looking into all the challenges including economic, infrastructural, socio-political and environmental.

Receiving copies of the Niger Delta Development Master Plan from the team leader, the Governor promised to study the plan carefully with a view to contributing the state government’s quota to the implementation of the plan for the overall benefit of the people in the region.

Earlier, the team leader and executive director (Projects), Engr. Elemechukwu Ojum, had told the governor that they were in his office to congratulate him and formally present the Niger Delta Development Master Plan as well as brief him on the activities and programmes of the Commission.

He requested the governor to study the plan and help educate others on the need to assist the commission in the implementation, noting that the commission had been under- funded, leading to its inability to meet the people’s demands.
