   BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH

The Edo State Ministry of Health is one of the oldest in the State having been in existence since 1963 when Midwest Region was first created. It is responsible for the formulation of Health policies, supervision and regulation of all health activities in the State. With its four Parastatals, it provides preventive and curative health services for Edo people; it is also one of the largest Ministries in the state.

The Ministry of health is responsible for health policy formulation and implementation in thestate. The Ministry is under the leadership of an Honourable Commissioner who oversees all the activities in the health sector and is supported by the Permanent Secretary, who is the accounting and reporting officer of the Ministry.                                        

OUR VISION

To free the citizens of Edo State from the heavy burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases and to significantly increase the life expectancy at birth to 70 years by 2020 and the quality of life of the people.                                                    

OUR MISSION 

To develop and implement policies and programs that will strengthen Edo State health system and enable it deliver effective, efficient, affordable, quality and readily accessible health services that will allow the people to live healthy and very productive lives.
