The Ministry of Finance which is the chief financial institution of the state Government is headed by the Honorable Commissioner for Finance, Hon. J.O. Inegbedion while the administrative head and accounting officer is the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. M.E Omijeh.
ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE:
For the purpose of performing its statutory function, the ministry is organized into four departments at the headquarters and two extra ministerial departments viz
Department of Administration and Supplies
Department of debt management
Department of Investment and Loans
Department of Finance and Accounts
The Board of Internal Revenue
The office of the Accountant-General
BROAD FUNCTIONS OF THE MINISTRY: The functions of the ministry include the following:
Initiating and implementing the state Government financial policies
Monitoring of performance of companies where the Edo State Government has shares
General advice on and supervision of the computerization of Government Information System.
Attendance of Federation Account Allocation Committee meeting.
Inspection and monitoring of all revenue collections.
Procuring and granting of loans.
Boards of Survey and Inquiry.
Banking Insurance
Motor Licensing and Taxation
The ministry is the main revenue collecting agent of the State Government
It is also the principal accounting organ of the state government through the treasury/office of the
Accountant-General.
In conclusion, the ministry of Finance is the watchdog of all finances of Government in Edo State.
