On-Going Projects



The following projects are at various state of completion:
i) Idumu – Eran/Idumeson Electricity project in Esan North East
ii) Urhomehe in Orhiomwon
iii) Agbokina in Egor
iv) Udo-Igueafole in Ovia North East
v) Sasaro in Akoko-Edo
vi) Up grading of Otuo Electricity with 7.5MVA Power transformer Owan East.
vii) Uluoke – Okpilla 33.KVA over head line Electricity supply to Etsako west, East and central Local Government areas of the state.

While the various Electricity projects are at various stages of completion, the Sasaro and Ekpenada Electricity project have been completed and tested by PHCN. They have been energized and waiting inauguration. The Otuo 7.5MVA power transformer is one of the biggest of all the Electricity recently under took an inspection/monitoring of on-going Electricity and water projects. It is expected believe that by the time the Comrade Governor Adams Oshiomhole completes his first four years in office he would have delivered the dividends of Democracy to the door step of the people assuring that no community in the state would be left out.



ACHIEVEMENTS


MINISTRY OF ENERGY AND WATER RESOURCES


The over 100 on-going water projects sited in some rural communities and Primary Health Care Centres across the State have reached various stages of completion. These projects are jointly financed by the Federal and Edo State Government under the 2008 CGS-MDGs Water projects are in various stages of execution. Some of the Water projects are completed and awaiting commissioning. The following projects sited in the various communities and Primary Health Care Centres already enjoying water facilities includes among others:
1. Ekpon in Igueben L.G.A.
2. Ukiodo and Idumabi in Esan Central L.G.A.
3. Iyamoh, South-Ibie and Ugiole in Etsako West L.G.A.
Furthermore, the Ugbokhua and Iguokolo water projects both in Ovia South West LGA being executed still under the 2008 CGS-MDGs water project have almost been completed and will soon be ready for commissioning. More of this projects are now being completed on a daily and weekly basis.


During the period under review, the State Government through the Ministry provided sets of Hand Washing Facilities to 80 randomly selected Schools across the three (3) Senatorial Districts of the State


RURAL ELECTRICITY BOARD



During the period under review, the Board planned, designed and awarded 11 Rural Electricity Project. Details are as shown:

Out of the 11 projects awarded during the period under review, three (3) have been complete. These are:

URBAN WATER BOARD

At the inception of Mr. Governor- Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole’s administration most pumping stations were not functional due to years of neglect by successive administration. Some of such pumping stations include:-

      • Ezoti pumping station
      • Palm House pumping station
      • Oriokpa pumping station and
      • Andrew Wilson pumping station.

These were immediately repaired and the pumping stations have since been made operational. Daily maintenance of the various Dams, pumping station and pipe lines across the state have been going on to ensure that they are functional.

 

Water Treatment Laboratory

In his bid to ensure safe drinking water for the good people of Edo state, the Comrade Governor graciously approved the sum of N19million for the rehabilitation of Ikpoba Dam Water Treatment Laboratory. It is expected that when completed, both public and private Water Supply Schemes in the state would start to undergo periodic test so as to eradicate Water Born diseases like Cholera, Typhoid, etc. it is envisaged that the rehabilitation would be completed by the end of April, 2010.

 

PURCHASE OF DRILLING RIGS.

At the inception of this administration, the Governor promised that three Drilling Rigs (one for each senatorial district of Edo State) will be purchased for Edo state Urban Water board to ease the perennial water supply shortage in the state especially in the difficult terrains of Edo North and Central Senatorial Districts. Two of the Rigs built in the United Kingdom (UK), have arrived Nigeria with the necessary accessories and the Ministry has taken delivery. The rigs would soon be deployed to sites to boost water supply in the state.

 

To complement the ease of operation of the drilling Rigs the Ministry recently awarded the contract for the procurement of 1No. Water Tanker, 1No. Motor Crane and 1No. Utility Van.

 

Re habilitation of Existing Dams/Pumping Station and the Construction of New Water Schemes.

The intention of this administration to rehabilitate some pumping stations and Dams across the state was captured in the 2009 Budget estimate. Some of the water project sites where work has commenced includes:-

 

  • Upper Sakponba water project in Ikpoba Okha.
  • Ehor water project in Uhunmwode
  • Rehabilitation, desilting of the intake Well at Ewohimi Mini Dam for taping of surface water to booster pumps.
  • Rehabilitation of Auchi Head Works recently ravaged by flood water which submerged the building has reached advanced stage of completion;


Newly Completed Water Schemes to be Commissioned.

Some water schemes have recently been completed and are being test- run and awaiting commissioning by the Comrade Governor. These water schemes include Ikabigbo water supply scheme, Police Mobil Barracks, and Upper Sakpoba water scheme. Others are the rehabilitation of Edokpolor Grammar School, (Benin \city) Pumping Pumping Station, and Rehabilitation of Ogbe Ogbe Primary School Pumping Station.
