Senator (Prof.) Oserheimen Osunbor, Knight of St. Christopher legal luminary, academic and a distinguished two-term Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, was born on Friday, October 5, 1951 in Iruekpen in present day Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State to Mr. Abraham A. Osunbor, a retired teacher and politician and Dame Felicia E. Osunbor, a retired teacher, who was Iya Egbe of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Iruekpen.

• Attended Provincial Teachers` Training College (PTTC) Demonstration School, Igueben (1957 – 1962)
• Attended Anglican Grammar School, Ujoelen, Ekpoma (1963 – 1968)
• Attended Holy Trinity Grammar School, Sabongida-Ora for his Higher School Certificate (1969 – 1970)
• Attended University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1971 – 1975) and graduated with a First Class honours Bachelor of Law (LL.B) degree
• Was awarded the certificate for the Best Student in the Department of Public and Private Law (1975)
• Attended Nigerian Law School, Lagos (1975 – 1976)
• Received the coveted Certificate for Best Overall Performance in the Nigerian Bar Examination and the Dr. Taslim Olawale Elias Prize.
• Won a Rhodes scholarship to pursue his doctorate degree in Law at the University of Warwick, Coventry, England from 1977 – 1981, when he was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in law.
• Won a University of Nigeria, Nsukka Foundation Scholarship (1972 – 1975)
• Was the Orator of the 1975 Grandaunts of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
• Appointed Lecturer in Law, Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna (NYSC 1976 – 1977) and taught Company Law, Commercial Law and General Principles of law.
• Was appointed lecturer II, Faculty of law, University of Lagos (1981); Lecturer I (1983) and Senior Lecturer (1986 – 1990)
• Was appointed Professor of Law, Lagos State University, Lagos (1990)
• Was Sub-Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos (1989 – 1990)
• Was Professor and Head of Department of Business Law (1990 – 1996) and Dean, Faculty of Law (1996 – 1999), Lagos State University.
• Was visiting Fellow (Law of Public Companies), the Queen’s University of Belfast, Northern Ireland (1986 – 1987)
• Was Fellow of the Salzburg Seminar on Transnational Law and Legal Institutions, Salzburg, Austria (1992)
• Has practiced law with emphasis on legal drafting and litigation since 1976.
• From 1988, Senator (Professor) Osunbor became Consultant on Performance Evaluation of Nigeria’s Institutions for Science and Technology to International Development Research Centre, Canada, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and World Bank on Foreign Direct Investments and Strategies for
creating a Favourable Legal/Economic Environment for Foreign Direct Investments in Nigeria.
• Participant at 60th Session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland. (2004 and 2005)
• Was Executive Council Member of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (1993-1995)
• In 1994-1995, Professor Osunbor was delegate to the Constitutional Conference and Chairman of its Sub-Committee on Population.
• Won election twice (1999 – 2003) and (2003 – 2007) as a distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
• Was for 14 years (1982 – 1992), the National Treasurer of the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers (NALT).
• Was an Executive Council Member of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (1993 – 1995)
• Chairman and Vice chairman of various committees and ad-hoc committees in the Senate (1999 – 2007).
• Variously Chairman of the Senate Committees on INEC, NEPAD, Inter-parliamentary Affairs, Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.
• Vice Chairman Senate Committees on Rules and Business, Insurance Committee.
• AD-HOC Committee on Anambra crisis and many others.
• Is Chancellor, Esan Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion)
• Sponsored many bills at the Senate, e.g. Electoral Bills of 2002, National Industrial Court Bill and Revised Laws of the Federation Bill 2006.
• Member of ECOWAS Parliament.
• Conferred with Award of Honour by St Mary’s Catholic Church, Iruekpen 2006.
• Merit Award and Honour of St. John’s Anglican Church, Igarra, 2006.
• Grand Merit Award of the Diocese of Sabongida-Ora Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, 2003.
• Award of Honour by Esan Students Association of Nigeria, UNIBEN/UBTH Chapter.
• NANS Distinguished Excellence Award 2006.
• Midwest Senator of the Year Award 2005.
• SSANU/AAU Award for Excellence 2007.
• Award of Honour by Imo State Government.
• Is married to Lady Ussieh and are both blessed with six (6) children.
