MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT & PUBLIC UTILITIES PRESS RELEASE
It has come to the notice of the Ministry of Environment and Public Utilities of Edo State that the Public is being misinformed by the People Democratic Party, (PDP) that the beautification programme of the Kings Square only involves the planting of “Grass and Trees” at a cost of N 1 billion naira.
For the avoidance of doubt and for proper clarifications, a contract sum of N207,818,953.44 was the beautification of Kings Square.
The scope of the beautification includes;
1. Two sets of street lightings of both the inner and outer Ring Road respectively
2. Provision of two 40 kva and 27 kva generators including fuelling and maintenance cost for one year in addition to training and paying emolument of personnel to man them for one year.
3.
Two meters wide walkways made to international standard and constructed out of paving stones
4. Decent public toilet with facilities
5. Planting of ornamental trees and shrubs
6. Road marking with durable paints using global traffic safety rules
7. Road marking with solar studs
8. Establishment of 12(no) beautiful gardens
9. Construction of six boreholes to maintain the gardens
10. Some bollard lights in the gardens
I want to assure the public that at the end of the beautification exercise, the King square and indeed the entire Benin City will not only be the pride of all Edolites, it will be the envy of all visitors to the state.
