The incessant and unprovoked attack on the state Commissioner for Education: Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Osarenren is a diversionary means calculated to turn the eye of the good people of Edo State from the good work the commissioner is doing to arrest the falling standard of education in the state.
For those of us who are worried and disturbed about the falling standard of education and massive examination malpractices in the state we cannot but congratulate and support her in his/her enormous task to improve the standard of education. Usually when it is time for students to write the West African Examination Council Exams all over the country, Edo State is besieged with exodus of students from neighboring states particularly Anambra state where students come to write examination in ghost examination centers created all over the state by mushroom school proprietors in collusion with some top officials from the state ministry of Education, both who derive huge financial gains from the illicit deal. Malpractices and the creation of ghost examination centers in the state are biting hard on them hence the attack and black mail.
The assembly men are not helping issues either as they will not co-operate with the government in her bid to give 10, 000 jobs to the teeming millions of unemployed youths in the state. The government has 2.2 billion counterparts funding and has attracted another 2.2 billion from the Federal Government.
The state now has 4.4 billion education fund staked away in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The assembly men will not screen the names the governor sent to them to serve on the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) to enable the board to settle down to utilize.
This whooping sum of money is wasting away in the bank unutilized. In Edo State, majority of schools leak and cry for heaven to heaven for maintenance, new schools have to be built, others have to be renovated, desks have to be provided to make reading and writing more comfortable not for the comrade’s biological children but for the children of the poor electorates in the state who voted them into power.
Who are the lawmakers fighting? The electorate or the government of Adams Oshiomhole? They are insensitive to the plight of the common man in the state. They need a rethink. We are interested in how much they can help the government deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Edo State not how much they can put a clog on the wheels of the government progress and turn around to orchestrate her failure. We are interested in the former and not the latter.
Dr. Ngozi Osarenren, an iron lady, a dark Amazon of a woman and the kind of Professor Dr. Dora Nkem Akunyuli, majority of the people of Edo State are in your support.
