BRIEF ON EDO STATE URBAN WATER BOARD

 INTRODUCTION
The Edo State Urban Water Board was first established by the Mid Western Region Government by the Water Board Edict No. 27 of 1969 which was deemed to have come into force on September 1, 1968. The Board
was then named the Mid Western Region of Nigeria Water Board. When in 1976, Mid Western Region was renamed Bendel State, Water Board was then called Bendel State Water Board. However, the Rural
Electricity Board was merged with Water Board by the enactment of Edict No.6 of 1986 to form Bendel State Public Utilities Board which was deemed to have come into force on May 1, 1987.

The splitting of Bendel State into Edo and Delta States in August, 1991 also changed the name of the Board to Edo State Public Utilities Board. In the year 1994, the Edo State Public Utilities Board was split again
into Edo State Urban Water Board and State Electricity Board. This was done by Water Board Edict of 1994 signed by Lt. Col. Abdulsamam Onuka (then Military Governor of Edo State).

The Edict accords full rights of a corporate citizen with perpetual succession and common seal to the Edo State Urban Water Board. This means that the departure of key Officers of the organization will not in any way affect the continued existence of the organization. The Edo State Urban Water Board also has the power to sue and be sued in its' corporate name. It is also mandated to hold, acquire and dispose of lands.
