DEPUTY Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Imasuen, said yesterday that the state government has set aside the sum of N80million for disbursement of bursary to the state indigenes in tertiary institutions across the nation.

The Deputy Governor who disclosed this to newsmen in Benin City yesterday, said the disbursement would commence with the final year students due to the peculiar financial demand at that academic level.

He said the Government decided to come up with the gesture because of its commitment to creating an enabling environment for academic pursuit.

He hinted that the state government already had the list of proposed benefiting students with a view to releasing the money to institutions for disbursement to beneficiaries.

According to him, “subventions to the various state owned institutions have been increased by government for them to meet their financial demands which was in dilemma in the past. We have also commenced the renovation of schools across the three senatorial districts while private schools would be reassessed with a view to ensuring standard”.

On the erosion problems in different parts of the state, Chief Imasuen said that “the state government has set aside the sum of N330 million to address the erosion problem at Queen Ede Primary school, Ogbeson in Benin City while we will also partner with the World Bank on the matter".

We have done a lot to improve the conditions of infrastructures since May 29, 2007 and we would not relent our efforts inspite of the utterances of the Action Congress (AC)”.

While noting that several roads in the state had received government attention more than any government in the recent past, Chief Imasuen said that the second phase of road rehabilitation would soon commence.

“The state Governor Professor Osunbor recently visited the Ojirami Dam in Akoko Edo and even since then, the Dam and that of Ikpoba River have received attention. The people of the state can now drink portable water”.
