Yeri served as the Military governor of the state from August 1990 to August 1991 and then continued as Governor of the new created Edo state (August 27th, 1991) from 1991 to January 1992. Babangida, the then Military President split the state in to two; namely Edo and Delta state. He was the first Military Governor of Edo State and assisted in the transition from Military administration to civilian government. and Air Commodore Luke Chijiuba Ochulor served as the first Military Administrator of Delta State.
During the period, elections were held with Social Democratic Party (SDP) , winning the Gubernatorial election in the state. January 1992, the handed over power to John Odigie-Oyegun.
