Oshiomhole- We won’t rest until Bishop is freed

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has reiterated his resolve to ensure the safety of lives and property, just as he said his administration would continue to support federal agencies in the state to meet their obligations.

The Governor who disclosed this at the Government House in Benin-City when members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) staged a peaceful protest over the kidnapping of Rt. Rev. Peter Imasuen, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese, said the government and the security agencies will not rest until the Bishop is released.

According to Comrade Oshiomhole, “it is the responsibility of the government to protect lives’ and properties and to guarantee that there is a peaceful environment for the people”.

The governor noted that without peace in the state, investors will not come in and it will be difficult to create jobs. “The state government will not relent to continue to strengthen the federal agencies,” he added.

Comrade Oshiomhole condemned the act of kidnapping, saying victims should not rush to pay ransom because each time a ransom is paid; the kidnappers are encouraged to continue in the act.

While commending the Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN) for the peaceful protest, the Governor noted that the government encourages people to speak out peacefully when expressing their grievances.

He also disclosed that the soldiers that were withdrawn from the Joint Task Force, “Operation Restore Hope” on the eve of the re-run House of Assembly election in Etsako Central have been restored.

He however, observed that the soldiers were restored to the state after the unfortunate kidnapping of the Anglican Bishop.

The protesting members of the Christian Association of Nigeria were led by the Acting Chairman, Rev Father Richard Ofere to the Government House after going round the streets of Benin City.
