FARMS DEVELOPMENT IN EDO STATE.
The present administration is focused on Agriculture and Rural Development. An excerpt from the Governor’s speech during the swearing-in of Special Advisers read; ´´although Edo state is one of the oil producing states in Nigeria, we are at the bottom of the table.
For this reason, my administration is determined to place more emphasis on raising the level of agriculture production through the establishment of farms in the three Senatorial Districts of the state with objective of transforming the state to an agriculture driven
economy, hence the creation of Office of the Special Adviser on Farms Development.” Part of the administration’s vision for agriculture and farm development includes:

economy, hence the creation of Office of the Special Adviser on Farms Development.” Part of the administration’s vision for agriculture and farm development includes:- Distribution of high-yielding Seeds, Seedlings and other farm inputs to farmers at highly-subsidized rates.
- The resuscitation of the Seed Multiplier Programme using the mini-set technique.
- Assist farmers in bush clearing, slashing, ploughing, harrowing and planting.
- Encourage multinationals and local investors to invest in agriculture and allied industries.
Create new Communal Farms in association with Federal and foreign donor agencies to increase food crop production, provide gainful employment for the teeming youth of the state and reduce rural to urban drift.
- Develop the fisheries potentials of Edo state to achieve increased fish production, reduce fish protein deficiency in diets, preserve fish hauls to prevent losses and raise the living standard of the artisan fishermen by providing the necessary inputs and store-based facilities.
- Provide prototype smoking kilns at subsidized rates to enable artisan fishermen to cure and store fish effectively.
- Encourage poultry farming and animal rearing by providing the enabling
environment through favorable government policies and other incentives.
- Reduce strains in land acquisition and certificate of occupancy by farmers.
- Integrated rural development as the bedrock as the bedrock of any successful government.
