Governor Oshiomhole Rescues Accident Victims
Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole yesterday rescued a family trapped in their Toyota Corolla car which ran under a stationary trailer at Iruekpen, Esan West Local Government Area of the state.
The Governor who was on his way to Benin City from his country home in Iyamho stopped his convoy at the accident scene to rescue the accident victims and rush them to the Irrua Specialist Hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the Toyota Corolla Car was trying to avoid an oncoming trailer when he ran into the stationary vehicle. One of the occupants of the car, who was later identified as the son of the man who drove the car died on the spot.
The three other occupants of the car; the driver whose name was given as Nath Iyekekpolor, his wife and another woman were said to be on their way to Benin City after attending a burial ceremony at Ekpoma. They were rescued alive by the Governor.
The Governor said he had to stop the convoy and rescue the trapped victims because “it was the right thing to do. Beside the fact that they are Nigerians and Edo citizens, they are human beings who desperately needed attention at the time.
“I had to personally rush them to the hospital to facilitate their treatment because if other persons had taken them there, their treatment might have been delayed because today (yesterday) being Sunday, it might be a bit difficult for them to get quick attention. Also, the hospital authorities may ask for Police report and, of course, the issue of deposit to commence treatment.
“All that have been taken care of now and I thank God that they are responding to treatment.”
